History

The Edmonton Kinsmen Diving Club had its beginnings in the mid-seventies with a volunteer coach. After the present facility was built for the 1978 Commonwealth Games a full time professional coach took over the club.

In 1980 the club then adopted the name of "University of Alberta Diving Club" and became incorporated under the Societies Act in the same year. Within 4 years the Club became the top Club in Canada at both the age group and senior levels.

The club adopted its current name, "Edmonton Kinsmen Diving Club" in 1985 when Canadian Universities ceased to offer diving as a competitive sport. Today the club is one of the top in Canada, and is sending divers to competitions around the world.

The Training Facility

The EKDC trains at the Kinsmen Sports Centre in Edmonton's lovely river valley parklands. The Kinsmen Centre was built for the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton. As a diving facility it is unequalled in Canada and is one of the best in North America.

There are 4 one metre springboards and 4 three meter springboards on permanent stands. In addition, 5 more springboards can be temporarily anchored to the deck. The tank also has three, five, seven & a half and ten metre stepped platforms. Spargers (bubbleators) are located under the five, seven & a half and ten metre platforms as well as under one of the three metre springboards.

There is a very wide deck area on which 8 dry boards are installed. This still leaves room to set up 4 trampolines. The facility is justifiably a favourite of divers for national competitions. Please Visit us at the Kinsmen Sports Centre, 9100 Walterdale Hill, Edmonton.
